COMMUNITY SERVICE
One of the mandates of Jonanco is to support the community. The largest contributions of the Donation program are quilts. Our members and Quilters are very generous with their fabric, time and love. From 2012 to 2021, we have donated over 500 quilts to the community as well as other items from different areas that can be used for fundraising for their projects.
Other donations include cribbage boards to senior facilities, animal beds to the SPCA and other animal rescue groups and wooden toys to Kindergarteners. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been busy making scrub bags, hats and masks for NRGH.
Our recipients include Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation, Building Better Babies, Ministry of Children & Family Development, Blessing Blanket, Social Services, Nanaimo Family Life Association, Nanaimo Fish & Game Club, NRGH, Cancer Clinic, End of Life Care, Neonatal ICU, Transition Level of Care, VI Scan Department, Nanaimo Youth Services, Prenatal Lunch Bunch at Princess Royal Family Centre, Safe Harbour House, Salish Lelum Housing Society, Samaritan House, Food Bank as well as special donations made to local families in need.
Ukrainian Quilts - May 2022
A Ukrainian Refugee mom and two daughters (Dad is still fighting in Ukraine) recently arrived in the Extension area. They arrived with one suitcase each. They were invited them to Jonanco where they each chose a quilt made by Jonanco Quilters. What a wonderful family and a very special visit for us! Welcome to Canada ladies and thank you to the Extension hosting family for helping them get settled in Nanaimo.
